Rachel Weisz To Star In The Bourne Legacy?

By in June 2, 2011 • Filed in: Project Rumours

This one I personally would love to see come true; I love the Matt Damon Bourne movies, and hope this one will be as good even though Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) isn’t in it.

Jeremy Renner may have found his co-star for the upcoming The Bourne Legacy, as Rachel Weisz enters talks. And that means you can scrub her off your James Bond casting list, too…

Universal is continuing to press ahead on its upcoming Jason Bourne film that happens not to have Jason Bourne in it, The Bourne Legacy. Thus far, we know that the project takes place in the world of Bourne, and that it’ll focus on another subject of a secret government scheme. And instead of Matt Damon being put through the wringer, it’s Jeremy Renner who’s being lined up for the lead role.

And according to Deadline, the latest addition to the cast may just be Rachel Weisz. Deadline reports that she’s in “deep talks” for the role, although what part she’s being lined up for is unclear. She’s also in talks to appear in Sam Raimi’s next project, Oz: The Great And The Powerful, but the schedules may be such that she can’t do both projects.

What this should put to bed is the ongoing rumour of her involvement in the next James Bond film. Before Bond 23 was postponed last year, Weisz had been strongly linked with playing a villain in the new 007 adventure. And while in recent times, since the production spluttered back into life, her involvement has been denied, some rumours have persisted. This should extinguish them.

The Bourne Legacy is set to shoot this September, under the watchful eye of director Tony Gilroy. The film is then earmarked for release late next summer.

Rachel Weisz May Star In ‘The Thin Man’ Remake

By in June 2, 2011 • Filed in: Project Rumours

Rob Marshall and Johnny Depp are working on a remake of The Thin Man in which Depp would take the role of Nick Charles, originally played by William Powell in the 1934 version. And now, we know who may end up playing his wife, Nora. Warner Bros. is considering Rachel Weisz.

The movie is a comedic detective story about a flirty, married couple who solve crimes. The 1934 version was nominated for an Academy Award, but if you picture this premise in a 2011 wrapper, you’ll probably end up with something like The Tourist, Killers, Knight and Day, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, or a dozen other movies with similar premises. The Thin Man was a good film, but that idea has been done so many different ways since, to differentiate the redo from the pack they’ll need special casting. Weisz and Depp together on screen seems like a natural fit.

Word from one of our most trusted sources is that the film is still in development and they’re waiting for Johnny Depp to make time for it in his schedule. Remember, he’s still pretty loaded with movies like The Lone Ranger, Dark Shadows, and maybe even a Pirates of the Caribbean 5 also in his future. Warner Bros. would like to find a way to squeeze Thin Man in ahead of those films, but for now they’re still working out the details. Because of that, Weisz isn’t actually in talks for the part yet, but she’s somewhere at the top of their wishlist for the moment when everyone involved is ready to make a move.

For her part, Rachel Weisz could really use a blockbuster, or for that matter a movie people actually show up to see at all. Her most recent work hasn’t exactly caught fire. She was last seen in The Whistelblower, which I bet many of you didn’t even know exists. Her next few movies seem destined to be equally obscure, though if Oz: The Great and Powerful ever gets going, she should create a stir as a witch. But barring that, teaming up with the ever reliable Johnny Depp in something like The Thin Man is always a good way to remind everyone of just how good you are.

Rachel Weisz In Negotiations To Play Bad Witch In The Wizard of Oz Prequel

By in June 2, 2011 • Filed in: Project Rumours

Rachel is in Negotiations to play a bad witch in The Wizard of Oz prequel.

Disney’s peek at what happened in Oz before Dorothy arrived has just gotten a whole lot more evil and a fair amount witchier as Rachel Weisz is now negotiating to play bad witch Evanora in Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Sam Raimi’s directing the semi-prequel, which finds James Franco as a shyster salesman who ends up carried away to the magical land when his balloon is caught in a tornado.

There, the man who claims to be magical runs into real power when he meets the witches who live there. Theadora (Mila Kunis) is trying to do the right thing, but when her romantic overtures to Franco are spurned, she begins down the path to the dark side, spurred on by twisted sister Evanora (Weisz).

If she signs on, this’ll mark the biggest film Weisz has appeared in for a while and a return to the big effects blockbuster territory found in the Mummy movies.

David Lindsay-Abaire, who wrote the excellent Rabbit Hole, has penned the latest draft of the script, which Raimi will kick off shooting in July.

Weisz was last seen in The Lovely Bones and Agora and has several movies in the release pipeline, including romantic drama The Deep Blue Sea and spy thriller Page Eight.

Rachel Weisz the new ‘Bond’ girl?

By in January 16, 2011 • Filed in: Project Rumours

Actress Rachel Weisz is reportedly in talks with director Sam Mendes to star in the new James Bond movie, opposite her rumoured new love interest Daniel Craig.

Filming on the 23rd 007 film is set to commence later this year and hit cinemas on November 9, 2012.

Craig will reprise his role as the superspy for the Mendes-directed action movie – and Weisz, who was spotted strolling hand-in-hand with the actor over Christmas, is in negotiations to star opposite her alleged new lover, according to Britain’s Grazia magazine.

A source tells the publication, “Rachel has been speaking with Sam for some time now about appearing in the new Bond film, long before she and Daniel hit it off.”

The publication also reports Weisz is planning to leave her home in New York and move back to her native U.K. with her son, Henry, by former partner Darren Aronofsky. The Hollywood couple ended its eight-year relationship in 2010, announcing news of the split in November after several months of separation.

The insider adds, “Whatever happens, she intends to move back to London this year. She loves her life in New York but she desperately misses England, and is keen to reconnect with her roots there. But most importantly she wants to be there to support Daniel.

“Rachel and Daniel have become very close and are serious about one another. It seems that being photographed holding hands was their way of showing the world that.”

Rachel Weisz Projected to Replace Angelina Jolie in ‘Gravity’

By in September 4, 2010 • Filed in: Project Rumours

Gravity” is still alive though Angelina Jolie passed the project. Despite report that Warner Bros. gets a problem to find an actress to carry the film, Alfonso Cuaron reportedly has had a candidate to fill the lead role and she is Rachel Weisz.

It is not known yet if the director has had a talk with the “Agora” star, but Latino Review says “producers are interest(ed) in meeting Weisz for the role very soon.” Beside Weisz, a lot of other actresses have reportedly tested for the same part.

Cuaron is additionally said trying to trim the movie’s budget since Jolie will not star in it. As it has been reported before, the “Salt” actress was expected to “hold the screen and draw an audience to an $80 million film” but she refused the job. Robert Downey Jr. has already been attached to “Gravity”, and despite his credibility, his role is quite small and he was never planned to carry the film.

“Gravity” will focus on a female astronaut and her team leader on a remote space station as the other team members have got wiped out by a debris field from an exploding satellite. The female heroine’s attempts to return home to her child will be the main highlight of the story.

Beside set to serve behind the lens, Alfonso Cuaron writes the script for the sci-fi thriller along with his son Jonas. Principal photography may start in 2011 after Robert Downey Jr. completes “Sherlock Holmes 2″.

Rachel Weisz is best known for her portrayal of Evelyn Carnahan-O’Connell in “The Mummy” and its sequel “The Mummy Returns”. She recently appeared in “The Lovely Bones” and her acting can next be seen in drama “The Whistleblower” and thriller “Dream House”.
